Substitutes / Substitute Bus Driver – available on an as needed basis, Monday‑Thursday during the school year, work days dependent upon route.

Salary & Benefits
: $16.00 per hour; no benefits.
- Obey all traffic laws and observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintain discipline when students are on the bus, reporting undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keep the assigned bus clean.
- Adhere to the assigned schedule.
- Perform required maintenance and safety checks on the assigned bus, reporting any mechanical problems or concerns to the proper authority.
- Exercise responsible leadership on out‑of‑town school trips.
- Transport only authorized students.
- Report all accidents and complete required reports.
- Complete all paperwork on a regular basis as required.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with co‑workers and visitors.
- Comply with all state of Michigan school bus driving regulations.
- Assist in the physical management of students.
- Possess a current medical card verifying successful completion of an annual physical; be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds waist high (lifting test required).
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
- Adhere to MCISD guidelines and policies.
- Follow work rules.
- Carry out all other responsibilities as assigned by the Transportation Director/Assistant Superintendent.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Current CDL school bus driver license with “S” and “P” endorsements and a school bus driving certificate for advanced bus driver training.
- Minimum of three years of appropriate experience (preferred).
- Excellent driving record.
- Sensitivity to and interest in working with students with disabilities.
- Good verbal, math and grammar skills.
- Subject to State and Federal drug/alcohol testing program.
Continuous sitting with occasional walking or standing. Bending or twisting at the neck and trunk, repetitive hand, arm or finger motions, use of hand strength to grasp tools, and occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. Assistance with physical management of students may be required.
Work EnvironmentWork in temperatures above 90°F and below 32°F, occasionally on slippery surfaces. Must meet deadlines under severe time constraints, interact with the public and other workers, and maintain direct responsibility for the safety and well‑being of students. Noise levels are frequently loud, requiring raised voices.
