Position: Tenure-Track, Rank Open Faculty; School Counseling
The University of North Alabama invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor in the department of Counselor Education to teach master's level core counseling courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling Programs beginning in Fall of 2026. Possible courses include development and management of school counseling programs, professional identity and ethics for school counselors, assessment of counseling, group counseling, and practicum.

Courses are offered weekdays during the late afternoon and evening, primarily in a traditional format, and summer teaching is typically available.
Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled.  Essential job duties include supervise, advise, mentor, and recruit students; participate in the enhancement of university and community relationships, including with area schools; assist with curriculum development, accreditation planning, and certification processes; engage in scholarly activities; serve as school counseling program coordinator, and serve on departmental, college, and university committees as requested.

Successful applicants must have a commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students, potential for excellence in instruction, evidence of potential for achievement in scholarly activities; a commitment to addressing the counseling needs of diverse populations, and knowledge of Alabama State Department of Education certification requirements and school-counseling laws/regulations.

Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in Counselor Education is required, preferably from a CACREP-accredited institution; master's degree in school counseling is required; professional identity as a school counselor educator is required; relevant experience as a school counselor is required; record of participation in relevant professional organizations is required; experience in elementary and secondary school settings is preferred; eligibility to be certified as a school counselor in the State of Alabama is preferred;
National Certified Counselor designation is preferred; university teaching experience is preferred; experience in curriculum development, accreditation, certification, and program planning is preferred.

Electronic copies of unofficial/official transcripts may also be requested to be sent to employment. If electronic copies of transcripts are unavailable, hard copies must be sent to:

Official transcripts must be sent directly to HR from the issuing school via email or postal mail to be considered official. Transcripts with a designation of "Issued to Student", or with the student name listed as the recipient will not be considered official.

Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment, but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
