Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of Biology

The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology starting in August 2027. This position requires a PhD in biology or a closely related discipline, although ABD candidates will be considered provided degree conferral will occur before the appointment start date. The area of specialization for this position is open, but we are especially interested in candidates with backgrounds including but not limited to ornithology, entomology, mammalogy, herpetology, or mycology.

The successful candidate will primarily teach majors and non-majors introductory biology lectures and laboratories, and upper-level coursework in their specialization. Standard teaching load is 12 semester hours (fall and spring; summer teaching is possible but not required). Preference may be given to candidates who can also teach human anatomy and physiology and/or clinical microbiology. Additional teaching responsibilities will be determined based on the candidate’s background.

Scholarly activity including the development of an active research agenda and mentoring of undergraduate researchers, academic advising of biology majors, and other service to the department, college, and university will also be required for progress toward tenure and promotion.

This position requires an earned PhD in biology or a closely related discipline. Previous experience teaching at the undergraduate level and mentoring undergraduate research students is highly preferred.

If any of your graduate hours in the relevant teaching discipline are taken from a degree(s) that is not your highest attained, a transcript of that degree(s) must also be submitted.
