Job Description & How to Apply Below
Build the Future of Subsea Micro‑Manufacturing
Join Westinghouse via WECTEC Staffing Services on a 12-month, hybrid contract in Madison, PA to automate underwater Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) with micro‑robotic systems designed for extreme conditions.
MissionEnable non‑invasive repair and fabrication on subsea assets—offshore platforms, pipelines, and underwater habitats—by fusing micro‑robotics with EDM for high‑accuracy material removal without physical contact.
What You'll Do- Design for Depth: Lead CAD‑driven concepting and prototyping of micro‑scale actuators, manipulators, and end‑effectors validated for up to 40 PSIG submerged.
- Integrate EDM: Embed micro‑EDM toolheads into robotic platforms—electrodes, pulsed DC power systems for spark generation, and dielectric fluid management to suppress arcing in conductive water.
- Control with Confidence: Implement GNC algorithms using encoders and cameras for precise localization, alignment, and repeatable operation.
- Engineer for Harsh Environments: Create waterproof precision tools designed for reliability in radiation environments.
- Scale and Validate: Conduct design reviews, resolve system‑level issues, and transition designs from prototype to production.
- Optimize Processes: Inspect with precision instruments, analyze EDM data, and tune parameters for wire EDM and sinker EDM to hit tight tolerances and complex forms.
- Test Relentlessly: Build and test in lab and field, simulate underwater conditions, perform failure analysis, and iterate for manufacturability and reliability.
- Collaborate and Deploy: Work with vendors on materials and manufacturing; travel occasionally for field testing or on‑site collaboration at restoration and manufacturing locations.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Robotics Engineering.
- 7–10 years' experience in a robotics‑focused company.
- Proven expertise in micro‑robotics and underwater engineering, including pressure resistance and precision at millimeter scales.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or have permanent resident status (sponsorship not available).
- Bachelor's Degree
- Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
- Electrical Schematics
- Industrial Robot Programming
- Process Engineering
- Electrical / Electronic Systems
- Industrial Electrical Experience
- Estimated base pay: $75.00/hour to $100.00/hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
- Comprehensive Health and Income Protection Benefits
- 401(k) Savings Plan
- Paid Vacations for Qualifying Positions
