Position Summary:Under the general guidance of physicians or providers, the Sonographer performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to support patient diagnosis and care. This role involves operating ultrasound equipment, explaining procedures to patients of all ages, and assisting with invasive procedures while maintaining a sterile environment and following infection control guidelines. The Sonographer is responsible for ensuring accurate imaging, maintaining clear and complete patient records, organizing the work area, and managing equipment and supplies.
They work closely with referring physicians, verify procedure requisitions, and help maintain smooth patient flow. A strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, along with the technical expertise to identify anatomical and pathological structures and differentiate them from artifacts, is essential. The Sonographer may also adapt or enhance procedures to improve diagnostic outcomes when necessary.
- Two (2) years of education:
Certificate, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree - Graduate of Program in Discipline, required or validated by current licensure
- State license to practice as a Sonographer
- ARDMS Registered or ARDMS eligible (must pass at least one exam (i.e., Abdomen, OBGYN), including physics, within one year of employment start date)
- (BLS) Basic Life Support required
