ResponsibilitiesUnder the general guidance of the physicians/providers performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures.
Reports to:
Supervisor of Cardiovascular Ultrasound.
- Perform Echo and Vascular studies including arterial and venous as well as reflux studies.
- Receives patients, explains the method of procedure and makes sure patient is comfortable.
- Operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine non‑invasive procedures according to established standards and protocols.
- Maintains equipment and supplies and organizes work area. Communicates well with physicians directly.
- Keeps accurate records, helps with scheduling of the ultrasound and keeps patient flow smooth.
- Checks physician's requisition for complete information on the procedure requested and refers any questions to the ultrasound physician before performing the procedure.
- Recognizes the significance of all structures that are visualized on the monitor and is able to differentiate artifacts from anatomic/pathologic structures within equipment limitations.
- Possesses an in-depth knowledge of anatomy/physiology, technical expertise and able to improve standard procedures to enhance diagnostic results when needed.
Education:
Associate's degree required; graduate of approved program of Ultrasound/Sonography or equivalent.
Licenses: ARDMS/CCI Registered or if new graduate, must be ARDMS/CCI eligible and pass a test in at least one area, i.e. ECHO or VASCULAR within one year of employment.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS).
