Job Description
This role involves greeting patients and guests courteously by telephone or in person, initiating scheduling of appointments, completing check‑in and admission processes, selecting and verifying patient identification and demographic data, and ensuring accurate billing information. The incumbent handles point‑of‑service collections, verifies insurance via electronic or phone methods, and represents the organization professionally. The role may also involve cross‑training to support multiple functions across all patient and payer types.
Education& Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Associate’s degree (preferred)
- Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, revenue‑cycle, or customer‑service environment (required)
- Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM)
- Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA)
- Medical Assistant or other specialty‑based certification
- Proficient computer skills for data entry and retrieval
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and industry software
- Strong interpersonal and clerical skills
- Knowledge of insurance benefits, payer guidelines, referral and authorization processes, and billing regulations
- Problem‑solving and ability to manage high‑stress situations with professionalism
- Organizational, time‑management, and conflict‑resolution skills
- Analytical and decision‑making abilities with attention to detail
- Collaborative work style and sound judgment in difficult situations
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, guests, and family members
- Create, activate, and complete patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission processes
- Ensure completion of required forms and accuracy of all paperwork
- Gather and input patient demographics and financial information; explain insurance benefits and collect copays, deductibles, and self‑pay amounts
- Analyze each case’s financial responsibility and inform patients accordingly
- Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and perform closing procedures at each shift’s end
- Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships and resolve interpersonal conflicts when necessary
- Adapt communication style to diverse patient populations, respecting privacy and tailoring explanations of services or procedures
- Perform other related duties as required
Work is primarily sedentary with occasional light lifting of up to 10 pounds. Employees may be exposed to communicable diseases, hazardous medications, hazardous waste, blood, and body fluids. Occupational risks include handling hazardous waste and exposure to infectious agents.
