Role Description

The Assistant Director is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Florence, AL, supporting the overall management and daily operations of the juvenile detention center. This position assists the Director with overseeing staff schedules, workflow, and performance, ensuring consistent adherence to facility policies, regulations, and safety standards. The Assistant Director helps manage resident intake, care coordination, and program delivery, including educational, medical, and behavioral services.

Typical responsibilities include supervising and coaching staff, monitoring facility security and compliance, preparing reports and documentation, and serving as a point of contact for families, courts, and partner agencies. The role also involves participating in strategic planning, supporting budget and resource management, and contributing to initiatives that improve resident outcomes and operational efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Experience in juvenile justice, corrections, social services, healthcare administration, or a related field, with knowledge of youth detention or residential care environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervision skills, including team coordination, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities, including documentation, reporting, policy implementation, and basic budgeting or resource management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with youth, staff, families, courts, and community partners.
  • Understanding of safety, security, and regulatory standards relevant to juvenile detention and medical practice settings.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions, and respond appropriately to emergencies or critical incidents.
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, public administration, healthcare administration, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Ability to work on-site in Florence, AL, with flexibility for shift coverage, occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call responsibilities as needed.
  • Commitment to non-discriminatory practices, trauma-informed care, and respectful treatment of all residents and staff.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, crisis intervention, or de-escalation training) are highly beneficial.
