Paint & Stain Finisher – Premier Mantels @ Renovation Brands
About This Position:
We are seeking an experienced Paint & Stain Finisher to join our custom mantel shop. This role is responsible for producing high-quality painted and stained finishes on mantels, mantel shelves and related millwork. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, understands wood behavior, and takes pride in consistent, professional finishes.
- Location: Florence, AL. On-site.
- Reports to: Plant Manager.
- Hourly Rate: $17.50 - $19.00 (experience & interview performance will determine actual number within the range).
- Shift: 1st shift, Monday – Thursday, 10 hours daily, Full-time. (occasional Fridays with overtime pay)
- Prepare mantel parts and assemblies for finishing (sanding, filling, sealing).
- Apply paint, stain, dye, glaze, and clear coats using spray equipment.
- Match colors and finishes to samples and client specifications.
- Inspect finished products for quality, consistency, and defects.
- Perform light touch-ups and repairs as needed.
- Maintain clean, organized spray booth and finishing area.
- Mix finishes and maintain accurate formulas and records.
- Follow shop safety procedures and proper handling of materials.
- Work collaboratively with cabinet makers, supervisors, and production staff.
- Meet production schedules while maintaining quality standards.
Surface Preparation
- Sand raw wood and MDF components to required grit levels.
- Fill nail holes, seams, and imperfections.
- Apply sealers, primers, and pre-stain conditioners as required.
Finishing Application
- Apply stains, paints, glazes, and topcoats per shop standards.
- Achieve consistent color, sheen, and texture.
- Perform multi-step or specialty finishes when required.
Quality Control
- Inspect finished components for defects and consistency.
- Sand between coats as required.
- Complete final touch-ups prior to assembly or shipping.
Equipment & Safety
- Set up, operate, and clean spray equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized finishing area.
- Follow safety procedures and use required PPE.
- 2+ years of experience in wood finishing and/or auto body.
- Strong understanding of paint and stain systems.
- Experience with spray equipment (HVLP or similar).
- Ability to color-match and interpret finish samples.
- Knowledge of wood species and finishing techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
