Job Summary
Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Reports to Director. FLSA:
Non‑exempt.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Graduate of a Program in Professional Nursing required.
- Current RN license required to practice in the state of VA.
- BCLS.
- ACLS within one year of hire/transfer.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends, holidays to insure continuity of care and appropriateness of nursing coverage to all units.
- Previous experience in acute care hospital setting preferred.
- Successful completion of orientation checklist, pharmacology exam, and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific unit.
- Perform plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
- Document patient care given.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family as appropriate.
- Detect changes in patient status, report to appropriate health care team member and utilize resources as dictated by the acuity.
- Assign priorities to the patient's problems with highest priority given to problems that are most urgent and critical.
- Assist patients with performing activities of daily living including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborate as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Director.
