More About Our TeamNorth Alabama Medical Center opened its doors in 2018 as replacement facility for Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, in Florence, Alabama. It serves as a regional facility with more than 200 physicians on staff who represent more than 42 specialty areas of medicine. Our Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Float Pool is a Per Diem (PRN) opportunity designed for actively enrolled nursing students to gain hands‑on clinical experience across a variety of hospital units.
In this dynamic role, students support patient care while working alongside experienced healthcare professionals, building foundational skills and broad clinical exposure. This flexible position offers a collaborative environment that enhances learning, confidence, and career development in nursing.
- Performs basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
- Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
- Maintains clean, safe, and well‑stocked patient rooms and common areas.
- Manages the tech desk and supports nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
- Documents care and activities per unit standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned; participates in performance improvement and required education.
Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak); ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
- High School diploma preferred.
- SRNA or EMT preferred.
- BCLS required;
Handle with Care preferred.
