Job Summary

Works under the direction of the Route Supervisor or Construction & Maintenance Coordinator weed-eating, mowing, picking up litter, and performing other assigned tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Supervision Required

Performs general labor: operates weed-eater, push mower, and other equipment assigned to the maintenance of grass on city owned properties.

Picks up trash and debris on assigned routes within the city of Florence.

May be required to operate a pickup truck.

Employee must provide own transportation if assigned to a litter route.

May be required to assist in the curbside pickup of trash, rubbish, and other material on assigned routes.

May be required to load and unload construction material: sand, gravel, bricks concrete blocks, asphalt, etc.

Reports problems or unusual situations to the supervisor.

Performs daily preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

This department may require employees to perform a variety of other assigned duties.

Shifts may vary according to the needs of the city.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Training, & License

Must have a valid driver's license.

Required Knowledge Skills Abilities

Knowledge of the city of Florence streets.

Ability to use weed-eaters, push mowers, riding mowers, and other assigned equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with co-workers and the public.

Ability to follow instructions.

Ability to use and follow safety procedures, regulations, and equipment.

Ability to use a two-way radio using FCC rules and regulations.

Physical Demands (with or without accommodation):

Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Ability to stoop, bend, lift, and crawl in and out of trucks.

Ability to mow and cut grass for an 8-hour shift.

Ability to walk up to two miles while picking up litter in a four-hour period.

Ability to crawl in and out of manholes, inlets, and ditches that may have mud and other obstructions in them.

Ability to lift 50 pounds (more on occasion).

Ability to work in and around moving equipment and vehicles.

Equipment/Tools Used:
Weed-eater, Push mower, Riding mower, and Communication Equipment.
