Summary:
As a band teacher, you play a crucial role in nurturing young musicians and fostering their passion for music. Your responsibilities may include:
Essential Functions
* Teaching students how to play various instruments, including brass, woodwind, percussion, and strings. Teachers must demonstrate proper techniques, provide feedback, and help students improve their skills.
* Introducing students to music theory concepts such as notation, scales, chords, and rhythm. This understanding is essential for developing well-rounded musicians.
* Leading rehearsals and performances of the school band. This involves selecting repertoire, conducting rehearsals, and ensuring that each section of the band works together cohesively.
* Organizing concerts, competitions, and other events where the band can showcase their talents. This includes coordinating logistics, scheduling rehearsals, and preparing students for performances.
* Providing individualized instruction and guidance to students who may need extra help or wish to pursue more advanced musical goals.
* Instilling an appreciation for different styles and genres of music, as well as teaching the historical and cultural context behind various musical compositions.
* Working closely with other music educators, school administrators, and parents to support the overall music program and create opportunities for student growth.
* Overseeing the maintenance and repair of instruments to ensure they are in good working condition for students to use.
* Continuously improving your own skills and knowledge through professional development opportunities, such as workshops, conferences, and further education.
* Serving as a mentor and role model for your students, inspiring them to pursue their musical passions and encouraging them to strive for excellence in their performances and personal growth.

Equipment:
Use standard office equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone. Uses musical instruments to demonstrate proper techniques to students.
Travel Requirements:
Limited travel to and from meetings may be required.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
* Valid state teaching certification in Music Education.
* Proficiency in various art forms and techniques.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Passion for promoting artistic expression and self-discovery among students.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
* Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
* Valid Arizona Teaching certificate
Clearances
* Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination
* Valid I-9 form
* AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Terms of Employment
* Salary commensurate with education and experience for this position
* 188 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position
* 186 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position

Evaluation :
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the site administration in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
