Position: Secondary Econ/World History Teacher

Summary

The High School Economics Teacher is responsible for developing students' understanding of economic principles, financial literacy, and the global economy. The teacher will design engaging lessons that connect theory to real-world applications, foster critical thinking, and prepare students for college, careers, and informed citizenship.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based instruction in economics for grades 9–12.
  • Teach concepts such as supply and demand, markets, government roles, fiscal and monetary policy, international trade, and personal finance.
  • Incorporate current economic events and trends into classroom discussions.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods—including lectures, discussions, projects, and technology integration—to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through tests, assignments, presentations, and class participation.
  • Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and performance.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages respect, curiosity, and active learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and participate in professional development.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, and administration regarding academic progress and classroom behavior.
  • Supervise students during school activities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Economics, or a related field; teaching certification is required. Master's Degree (MA) preferred.
  • Proven experience in teaching high school Economics, with a deep understanding of economic principles, financial literacy, and the global economy.
  • Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Valid Arizona Teaching certificate
Clearances
  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination
  • Valid I-9 form
  • AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment
  • Salary commensurate with education and experience for this position
  • 188 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position
  • 186 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position
