Summary

The job of Bus Monitor is done for the purpose/s of assisting special education students while they are being transported to and from school; and providing some custodial work in Transportation area.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Assists special education students for the purpose of providing for special needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.
  • Assists with cleaning the bus for the purpose of maintaining buses in safe and sanitary condition.
  • Ensures teachers or aides are present to escort special education students to classrooms for the purpose of ensuring their safe arrival at school.
  • Instructs special education students for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Monitors students (e.g. unruly, disruptive, spitting, hitting, abusive language, kicking, etc.) for the purpose of preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers.
  • Reports observations and incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
  • Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Terms

Of Employment
  • Salary based on column A $15.15 minimum of the approved Classified Salary schedule as established by the Governing Board.
  • Up to 7 hours per day, 182 days per year.
  • Full Benefits as assigned for the position.
  • Must be 21 years of age of older
Clearances
  • Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance
  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination
  • Valid I-9 form
Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Transportation, in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
