Position Function

Under direct supervision of the Site Principal, patrol the school building to ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Maintain the In School Suspension Room.

Location:

Walker Butte Middle School.

Responsibilities
  • Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and school district property in accordance with district policies to create an educational climate conducive to learning.
  • Conducts ongoing security patrols of the building.
  • Enforces board policies regarding smoking, parking, loitering, trespassing, theft, vandalism, property damage, alcohol, drug abuse, and other school rules and regulations.
  • Reports concerns and incidents that may require corrective action to the Site Principal.
  • Encourages appropriate student conduct with regard to school rules and regulations.
  • Assists visitors by providing directions, maintaining a visitor log, and preventing unauthorized persons from entering the building.
  • Monitors exits and prevents unauthorized exits of the building by students.
  • Checks student passes when classes are in session and escorts students to and from the Principal's offices as directed.
  • Assists school administrators with investigations as assigned.
  • Physically separates students involved in altercations and maintains crowd control as needed in accordance with established guidelines regarding the use of force.
  • Maintains order and discipline in the In School Suspension Room at all times.
  • Monitors grounds in the morning to prevent loitering and improper parking of vehicles.
Additional Duties
  • Performs related duties as required.
Equipment
  • Uses radio communications equipment.
  • Uses motorized vehicles to patrol areas.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and codes related to building safety and security, including OSHA and Electronic Surveillance laws.
  • Knowledge of security and alarm systems, electronic surveillance, and related safety and security devices.
  • Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and coordinate work with the principal, security guards, and others.
  • Ability to describe or report security problems orally or in writing.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, calm, and authoritative manner when challenged by students.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Works in a standard school building environment.
  • Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
  • Physical ability to separate students or others involved in altercations.
Qualifications Profile
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
  • High school diploma or completion of GED.
  • Successful experience in security or law enforcement.
  • Experience working with adolescents preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Salary and Benefits
  • Grade A $15.15 minimum, as per the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule approved by the Governing Board.
  • 8 hours per day.
  • 185 work days with paid holidays.
  • Full benefits assigned to this position.
