Position Function
Under direct supervision of the Site Principal, patrol the school building to ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Maintain the In School Suspension Room.
Location:
Walker Butte Middle School.
- Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and school district property in accordance with district policies to create an educational climate conducive to learning.
- Conducts ongoing security patrols of the building.
- Enforces board policies regarding smoking, parking, loitering, trespassing, theft, vandalism, property damage, alcohol, drug abuse, and other school rules and regulations.
- Reports concerns and incidents that may require corrective action to the Site Principal.
- Encourages appropriate student conduct with regard to school rules and regulations.
- Assists visitors by providing directions, maintaining a visitor log, and preventing unauthorized persons from entering the building.
- Monitors exits and prevents unauthorized exits of the building by students.
- Checks student passes when classes are in session and escorts students to and from the Principal's offices as directed.
- Assists school administrators with investigations as assigned.
- Physically separates students involved in altercations and maintains crowd control as needed in accordance with established guidelines regarding the use of force.
- Maintains order and discipline in the In School Suspension Room at all times.
- Monitors grounds in the morning to prevent loitering and improper parking of vehicles.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Uses radio communications equipment.
- Uses motorized vehicles to patrol areas.
- Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and codes related to building safety and security, including OSHA and Electronic Surveillance laws.
- Knowledge of security and alarm systems, electronic surveillance, and related safety and security devices.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and coordinate work with the principal, security guards, and others.
- Ability to describe or report security problems orally or in writing.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to maintain a professional, calm, and authoritative manner when challenged by students.
- Works in a standard school building environment.
- Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Physical ability to separate students or others involved in altercations.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
- High school diploma or completion of GED.
- Successful experience in security or law enforcement.
- Experience working with adolescents preferred.
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Grade A $15.15 minimum, as per the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule approved by the Governing Board.
- 8 hours per day.
- 185 work days with paid holidays.
