Lateral Detention Officer

Maintain safety and security of inmates, staff and detention facilities, provide custody and control of inmates, preserve order and discipline, and supervise inmates according to Pinal County Sheriff's Office Adult Detention Center (PCSO-ADC) policies and procedures and state and Federal regulations under basic supervision.

The application and any supplemental questions are an integral part of the selection process and must be completed in full in order for you to be considered as a candidate. This role is compensated under a step pay structure with scheduled increases based on tenure and performance. Newly hired laterals shall be placed at a step according to their full years of credited service.

Years of service shall be determined based upon information contained in the application and validated based upon the number of full years paid into the Correctional Officers Retirement System (CORP) or equivalent retirement system for out-of-state laterals with service credits. Eligibility for placement at a step above entry shall be at the discretion of PCSO based upon the candidate's training and applicable job related experience.

To receive service credit, the candidate shall have attended and successfully completed a detention/correctional academy conducted by a state or county law enforcement agency and worked in an adult detention/correctional facility. Applicants with previous employment as a detention/correctional officer in a municipal or federal agency and those from the private prison sector shall be considered on a case by case basis.

Step Placement:
Eligible laterals will receive one credit for each year of credited service. No credit shall be given for partial years of service.

• Maintain custody and control of inmates
• Maintain safety and security of staff, inmates, and detention facilities

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 1 year of corrections/detention work experience
• Minimum of nineteen (19) years of age
• Certificate from an accredited Correctional Academy
• Valid Arizona State Driver's License
• Pass a thorough background investigation
• For ACJIS users - Pass a thorough background investigation and background re-investigation every 5 years

• Additional technical training and certifications may be required at the direction of the Sheriff or Designee.

• This position will have direct inmate contact and will work rotating shifts.
• Accepting this position will require a TB skin test in the first 10 days of employment and annually thereafter. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications as applicable.
