The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting general accounting functions with a strong emphasis on cost accounting and manufacturing operations. This role ensures accurate inventory valuation, cost analysis, and financial reporting, while partnering with operations to improve efficiency and control costs.
ResponsibilitiesEssential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain and analyze inventory and cost accounting records, including standard costs, variances, and overhead allocations
- Prepare and post journal entries, including inventory, accruals, and cost adjustments
- Reconcile inventory, WIP (work-in-process), and general ledger accounts
- Reconcile CIP and Production Fixed Assets
- Support Production related Accounts Payable as necessary
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Analyze manufacturing variances (labor, material, overhead) and provide actionable insights
- Assist in standard cost updates and bill of materials (BOM) accuracy
- Partner with operations and supply chain teams to monitor production costs and efficiencies
- Lead bi-annual physical inventory process, including reconciliation and reporting
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to manufacturing costs
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
- Support internal and external audit requests
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2-5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with cost accounting and inventory management
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)
- Strong proficiency in Excel
- Knowledge of standard costing and variance analysis
- Solid understanding of GAAP principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Organized with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Collaborative mindset with cross-functional teams
- CPA or progress toward certification
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with inventory controls and process improvements
