Water Works Youth

Overview

The Greater Cincinnati Water Works Youth to Work program aims to equip young individuals with essential skills, real-world experience, and professional guidance to prepare them for successful careers. The program provides students with an understanding of the divisions and positions through a work rotation process.

Please note:

The following examples of work performed are illustrative and may vary by community partner assignment.

• Type letters, reports, and other documents from rough typed or longhand drafts.
• Answer phones, greet visitors, take messages, respond to questions and complaints, and provide information and assistance.
• Copy, collate, and prepare material for mailing and routing.
• Receive, open, and route incoming mail.
• Basic landscaping and grounds keeping; clean floors, walls, and equipment.

• Standard office methods, ethics, and practices.
• Knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office.
• Ability to answer phones and take messages.
• Type, file, and copy materials.
• Knowledge of basic office equipment such as fax, scanner, or copy machine.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Prioritize, assign work, and supervise others.
• Understand and follow instructions and directions.
• Maintain a clean and safe workplace indoors and outdoors.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Plan, supervise, and coordinate tasks.

• Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Sign a work permit for individuals under eighteen.
• Submit a City job application for employment.
• Have a valid picture  Driver's License.
• Pass drug screen and background check.

Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods; manual dexterity; lifting up to 20 lbs; operating small hand tools or power equipment; and moderate pushing, pulling, and carrying.
