Job Summary

The University of Kentucky is seeking motivated Honors College students for an internship offering hands‑on experience in post‑award research administration
. This opportunity introduces students to the administrative, financial, and compliance processes that occur after a grant has been awarded—critical functions that ensure research projects remain compliant, well‑documented, and aligned with sponsor and university requirements.

Interns will work alongside the Collaborative Grant Services (CGS) Post Award team to gain practical exposure to routine reporting, documentation workflows, financial compliance considerations, and the organizational systems that support funded research across campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reporting & Data Support
    • Assist with gathering, organizing, and preparing documents for routine sponsor and internal reporting.
    • Support data entry and verification tasks that contribute to financial tracking and compliance monitoring.
    • Review award documents to identify reporting requirements and timelines.
  • File & Record Management
    • Maintain digital and physical project files in alignment with UK and federal documentation standards.
    • Help organize award folders, invoices, correspondence, and recordkeeping materials.
    • Ensure records are complete, accessible, and audit‑ready.
  • Resource Development
    • Assist with drafting, formatting, and finalizing resource materials (e.g., templates, checklists, standard operating guides).
    • Contribute to updates of internal Post Award training materials and reference documents.
    • Help streamline information for end users, improving clarity and accessibility.
  • Policy & Compliance Exposure
    • Learn foundational concepts related to Uniform Guidance, cost principles, and sponsor expectations.
    • Participate in discussions about financial compliance, audit preparedness, and university policies.
  • Training & Team Engagement
    • Attend CGS team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
    • Engage in small projects that map and visualize Post Award workflow processes.
  • Capstone Project
    • Complete a project enhancing or analyzing a component of UK’s Post Award research administration ecosystem (aligned with Honors College course expectations).
Learning Outcomes
  • Describe key stages of the post‑award grant lifecycle and associated reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrate skills in file management, documentation workflows, and basic reporting preparation.
  • Understand how post‑award processes support financial stewardship and research integrity.
