Overview

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office, through the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), employs nearly 30 sections that serve the criminal justice community and protect Ohio families. This role supports the Identifications Division by converting physical criminal records into electronic format and maintaining them in designated systems of record.

Responsibilities
  • Convert physical records related to arrests, convictions, and fingerprinting into electronic format.
  • Retrieve physical records pertaining to arrests, convictions, or fingerprinting.
  • Compare the quality of electronic records with the original physical records.
  • Identify the appropriate system for uploading electronic records.
  • Upload electronic records into the designated system of record.
  • Enter data from physical records into designated systems of record.
  • Review physical records received from courts, law enforcement agencies, and other sources.
  • Log and update information about received records in the appropriate systems.
  • Verify that data entered matches information in physical records.
  • File, refile, or dispose of physical records as directed.
  • Perform related administrative duties.
  • Train other Criminal Records Support Specialists.
  • Review the work product of other Specialists.
  • Log, distribute, file, and refile records related to criminal histories or background checks.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support unit staff and operations.
Qualifications
  • Formal and ongoing training with systems of record used by the BCI Identification Unit.
  • Training on new or enhanced equipment/software within the unit.
  • Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Typing speed of 45 words per minute.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, scanners, and data entry into designated systems.
  • Ability to read, scan, and enter data from physical records accurately and efficiently.
  • Minimum of 12 months in current position for eligibility.
