North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a dynamic and motivated Gastroenterology Specialty Doctor to join our team of consultant gastroenterologists. The role will provide an integrated digestive diseases service across North Cumbria, combining gastroenterology, endoscopy, upper GI, hepatobiliary, colorectal and emergency GI surgery.
Appointees will be appointed to a base unit but are expected to contribute across the general gastroenterology service of the Trust, including inpatient, elective outpatient and endoscopy services. The department features a dedicated medical GI ward at the Cumberland Infirmary (Carlisle) and a brand‑new £15 M 5‑room endoscopy unit at the Cumberland Infirmary and a 2‑room endoscopy facility at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
A dedicated GI physiology lab is available at both sites. Sub‑specialty interest will be encouraged where it complements the Trust’s service needs.
The successful candidate will join a team of up to 6 consultant gastroenterologists. Duties include managing inpatient care at the Carlisle site, providing elective outpatient clinics and endoscopy services across the Trust, working with nurse specialists and junior staff, and contributing to teaching and audit. Complex inpatient work will be focused at Carlisle, while elective services are shared among the team.
