AAE Job Goal

To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.

Qualifications
  • Holds a bachelor's or higher degree in library science
  • Holds a valid Kentucky certificate as a media librarian
  • Has demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community
Performance Responsibilities
  • Operate and supervise the library to which assigned
  • Establish and supervise procedures for evaluating, selecting, and requisitioning new library materials
  • Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and make library materials available to supplement the instructional program
  • Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires
  • Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instruct teachers and students on use of the system
  • Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers
  • Work with teachers in planning those assignments that are likely to lead to an extended use of library resources
  • Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities
  • Help students develop habits of independent reference work and skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments
  • Arrange frequently changing book‑related displays and exhibits designed to increase students’ interests
  • Prepare, recommend to the Principal, and administer the library budget
  • Supervise and evaluate library aides in the performance of their duties
  • Dispose of obsolete and worn materials from the collection on an annual basis and maintain a complete inventory
  • Supervise the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the library
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the District and other self‑selected professional growth activities
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
