Extension Instructional Designer
Position summary:
The UGA Extension Instructional Designer supports faculty in the design and delivery of high‑quality, accessible online courses, assists with training sessions, and ensures best practices in online curriculum development.
- Design and Development
- Support design/development of online programs in collaboration with faculty.
- Apply instructional design theory and emerging technologies.
- Design and develop instructional materials aligned with measurable learning objectives.
- Support design of online certificate programs.
- Create formative and summative assessments.
- Collect and organize course‑level data for quality assurance.
- Identify and respond to ethical and legal implications.
- Percentage of time: 60%
- Planning and Analysis
- Conduct needs assessments to recommend strategies.
- Analyze course alignment and recommend improvements.
- Define scope of projects.
- Use data to revise curricula and learning strategies.
- Percentage of time: 15%
- Project Management
- Define project scope and goals.
- Create and maintain implementation plans.
- Apply appropriate processes.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring on‑time delivery.
- Percentage of time: 15%
- Support
- Provide consultation for instructional and technical challenges.
- Assist troubleshooting web technologies.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Research
- Stay current with instructional design practices and accessibility standards.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and at least 2 years of professional experience. - Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Attention to detail
- Effective communication in visual, oral, and written forms
- Write and edit clear, concise, and grammatically correct messages and materials
- Familiarity with curriculum and course development
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, instructional teams, and stakeholders
- Active listening skills
- Solicit, accept, and provide constructive feedback
- Author WCAG 2.0 compliant HTML content
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, , Trello)
- Experience with a variety of technology tools (e.g., Articulate, Canvas, Eleven Lab, Vyond, WeVideo)
- Demonstrates effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills
- Light office work
- Occasional driving as needed to perform job duties
