Position summary:

The UGA Extension Instructional Designer supports faculty in the design and delivery of high‑quality, accessible online courses, assists with training sessions, and ensures best practices in online curriculum development.

• Design and Development
  • Support design/development of online programs in collaboration with faculty.
  • Apply instructional design theory and emerging technologies.
  • Design and develop instructional materials aligned with measurable learning objectives.
  • Support design of online certificate programs.
  • Create formative and summative assessments.
  • Collect and organize course‑level data for quality assurance.
  • Identify and respond to ethical and legal implications.
  • Percentage of time: 60%
• Planning and Analysis
  • Conduct needs assessments to recommend strategies.
  • Analyze course alignment and recommend improvements.
  • Define scope of projects.
  • Use data to revise curricula and learning strategies.
  • Percentage of time: 15%
• Project Management
  • Define project scope and goals.
  • Create and maintain implementation plans.
  • Apply appropriate processes.
  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring on‑time delivery.
  • Percentage of time: 15%
• Support
  • Provide consultation for instructional and technical challenges.
  • Assist troubleshooting web technologies.
  • Percentage of time: 5%
• Research
  • Stay current with instructional design practices and accessibility standards.
  • Percentage of time: 5%

• Minimum:
  Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and at least 2 years of professional experience.

• Attention to detail
• Effective communication in visual, oral, and written forms
• Write and edit clear, concise, and grammatically correct messages and materials
• Familiarity with curriculum and course development
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, instructional teams, and stakeholders
• Active listening skills
• Solicit, accept, and provide constructive feedback
• Author WCAG 2.0 compliant HTML content
• Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, , Trello)
• Experience with a variety of technology tools (e.g., Articulate, Canvas, Eleven Lab, Vyond, WeVideo)
• Demonstrates effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills

• Light office work
• Occasional driving as needed to perform job duties
