JOB SUMMARYKentucky State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction in undergraduate mathematics courses, advise students, participate in curriculum development and assessment, contribute to departmental and university service, and support student success through effective teaching and mentoring.
This position is primarily instructional in nature. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their discipline through ongoing professional development and scholarly or professional engagement that enhances teaching effectiveness. While scholarly activity is encouraged, sustained research productivity is not a condition of continued employment.
Regular, in-person participation is an essential function of this position. Faculty members are expected to maintain an on-campus presence to fulfill instructional responsibilities, conduct office hours, advise students, participate in meetings and committee work, collaborate with colleagues, and engage in other activities that support the academic mission of the University.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Teach undergraduate mathematics courses in assigned instructional modalities while maintaining high academic standards and promoting student success.
- Prepare and deliver course instruction consistent with approved curriculum, course learning outcomes, and University academic policies.
- Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, examinations, assignments, and other learning resources.
- Evaluate student performance in a fair and timely manner and submit grades in accordance with University deadlines.
- Maintain regular and substantive interaction with students through classroom instruction, scheduled office hours, academic advising, and other approved communication methods.
- Provide academic advising and mentoring to students regarding degree requirements, academic progress, and career preparation.
- Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives within the School.
- Collaborate with faculty members to review curriculum, assess student learning outcomes, and support academic program effectiveness.
- Serve on departmental, college, and University committees as assigned.
- Participate in student recruitment, orientation, retention, commencement, and other University events.
- Maintain appropriate instructional records and documentation in accordance with University policies and accreditation standards.
- Utilize instructional technology and the University's learning management system to enhance teaching and student engagement.
- Remain current in the mathematics discipline through professional development activities, professional organizations, workshops, conferences, or other discipline‑related activities.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable University policies and procedures.
- Maintain regular, predictable, and reliable on-campus attendance as an essential function of the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson, Dean, or other appropriate University administrators.
- Demonstrated knowledge of undergraduate mathematics, including algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or other assigned instructional areas.
