The Principal serves as the academic leader of the school, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe traditional Catholic learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school.
Achieving academic excellence requires that the school Principal work collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff hired by the President and Board of Trustees and to communicate effectively with parents, alumni, and the community. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Instructional Leadership:
Setting the academic vision, managing curriculum standards, and ensuring teaching objectives are met. - Staff Management:
Hiring, training, and evaluating teachers and support personnel, as well as organizing professional development workshops for the highest quality of learning. - Student Welfare and Discipline:
Fostering a positive school climate, addressing behavioral issues, and supporting student needs. - Operations and Budgeting:
Managing the academic budget, ordering supplies, and establishing security and emergency procedures. - Community Engagement:
Acting as an academic representative of the school, meeting with parents, interacting with the Board of Trustees, and responding to community concerns. - Fostering Faith-Based Practices:
As a practicing Catholic, the Principal models faith-based Christian practices and values of the Dominican traditions. - Network and Collaborate:
The Principal must network with other schools and area school leaders to enhance the Elms reputation and enrich our academic programs.
- Maintains congruency between the School’s Board-approved mission statement and all academic activities.
- Acts as the spiritual and academic leader of the school, responsible for its day-to-day operation, including, but not limited to: overseeing academic advising and college counseling programs; enforcing the student and faculty handbooks; dealing with all disciplinary matters; coordinating the efforts of department heads and team leaders; supervision of the libraries; and oversight of school facilities.
- Observe, supervise and evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; supervise the teaching process, review and evaluate the academic programs, including conforming to CODA requirements for new and existing courses.
- Oversee and direct the activities of the Team Leads, the sponsors of various student organizations and activities, and faculty committees, where appropriate.
- Ensures compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies; maintains the educational standards established by the State of Ohio and by the Diocese of Cleveland in the examination and accreditation of the school.
- Make recommendations to the President and Board of Trustees regarding the recruiting, hiring, retention, and the assignment of faculty.
- Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for yearly evaluation of classroom teachers, to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of the school operation. Assign Team Leads to all new teachers.
- Conduct regular meetings with faculty, Team Leads and department chairs, which will deal both with routine school matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern.
