William Paterson University invites applications for adjunct faculty within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in the Language, Literature, Culture, and Writing Department’s Program in Writing and Rhetoric.
Those selected will be responsible for teaching undergraduate writing courses such as College Writing and Experiences in Literature (a workshop-based, writing-intensive course). The role is remote-friendly hybrid and includes a four-day summer work week (Fridays off). Student success and effective support are core expectations.
Course Topics- College Writing
- Experiences in Literature (workshop‑based, writing‑intensive course)
The program draws on the expertise of full‑time professors in composition and rhetoric, emphasizing writing‑to‑learn, critical thinking, and extensive revision through a workshop approach.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop a course syllabus and content aligned with the program’s materials and best practices.
- Teach a workshop‑based writing course focusing on multiple draft revisions.
- Support student success with consistent and effective guidance.
Required
- Earned Master’s or PhD in English or a related field.
Preferred
- One or more years of higher‑education teaching.
- Background in writing studies, including coursework, pedagogy workshops, or similar training.
- Strong classroom presence and sensitivity to students from diverse backgrounds; enthusiasm for teaching writing.
- Interest in professional growth and learning more about writing pedagogy.
- New employees: $2100 per credit.
- Employees with 13+ semesters at WP: $2175 per credit.
