About the OpportunityThis is an open position with Ohio Edison, a subsidiary of First Energy Corp. The role is a full‑time, on‑site Substation Supervisor located in Akron/Fairlawn, OH.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
- Direct and supervise employees engaged in above and below grade electric transmission and distribution construction work.
- Direct substation workers in all activities associated with the installation and removal of new and existing substation facilities such as breakers, switches, line traps, tuners, CCVTs, transformers, bus work and associated structures (steel or wood).
- Respond to and supervise resources during emergency conditions to support public safety and system reliability, and supervise and dispatch service restoration crews during major storms.
- Monitor employee activities and enforce conformance to established work practices and methods, according to the Preferred Practices Manual, Accident Prevention Handbook, Safety Specifications and Construction Standards.
- Request and coordinate the availability of necessary equipment, tools, materials, and supplies required.
- Coordinate work with other departments and schedule construction, maintenance, repair, or test work.
- Demonstrate sound internal and external customer service.
- Provide coaching, recommend corrective actions to meet performance standards, and acknowledge good work and habits.
- Implement instruction and training of substation employees in the established work practices and methods used throughout the department.
- Administer the Company and Regional Absenteeism Management Program and Regional Safety Plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent and 5‑7 years of related electrical field work experience, including hazard response, construction, and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment, and tools.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in operations, repair, and construction of assigned transmission and distribution areas.
- Some supervisory experience is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of principles and operation of electric transmission and distribution systems.
- Ability to learn various computer applications (CASCADE, CREWS, SAP, POWERON, GIS, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read, alter, and communicate complex prints and specifications to personnel.
- Ability to coach, mentor, engage, and inspire people to excel in their roles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applied electricity, including AC and DC circuits and equipment.
- Possess a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and develop relationships.
- Effective leadership skills to communicate with and direct the work of others to ensure safety and produce satisfactory work results.
