Systems Engineer, Test Engineer
Overview
At Jabil, we empower brands that empower the world. As a global leader in manufacturing solutions, Jabil operates over 100 sites in 30 countries, delivering engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain solutions for the world's most innovative companies. Our Florence, KY site is rapidly expanding into the liquid-cooled server market, supporting next-generation high-density data center infrastructure.
Summary
Jabil is seeking an experienced Test Engineer I to join our team in Florence, KY to serve as a key technical lead and individual contributor for a new liquid-cooled server rack product line. In this role, you will drive the launch and ongoing support of high-power AI/ML, GPGPU, and hardware accelerator-based server, storage, and networking platforms that feature advanced liquid cooling capabilities.
You will develop and optimize test processes for full rack (L10/L11) system assembly and integration, ensuring these complex systems meet quality and performance standards. The Test Engineer will play a pivotal role in both New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining production – designing test procedures, analyzing data for continuous improvement, and leveraging liquid cooling expertise to develop end-customer product solutions.
Duties And Responsibilities
Include the following categories (other duties may be assigned):
- Test Development and Execution:
Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive test procedures, test fixtures, and software for high-level server assembly and full rack integration in a fast-paced manufacturing environment - Ensure test coverage for all system components - from sub-assemblies to fully integrated liquid-cooled racks, including: firmware provisioning, hardware burn-in, functional validation, and safety checks (hi-pot testing, thermal cycling, etc.)
- Liquid Cooling:
Integrate and test liquid cooling systems within the server racks, verifying proper installation and function of pumps, cold plates, radiators/chillers, reservoirs, tubing, and fittings - Set up data acquisition instruments (thermocouples, flow meters, pressure sensors, etc.) to monitor coolant flow, pressure, and temperature during testing, and adjust test parameters to ensure effective thermal management under maximum load
- Implement leak detection and prevention best practices, such as pressure decay tests and sensor-based leak alarms, to catch any coolant leaks early and protect hardware
- Serve as the Test Engineering lead for New Product Introduction (NPI) activities on the liquid-cooled rack product line
- Failure Analysis and Debugging:
Perform detailed failure analysis on server hardware and cooling subsystems to identify root causes of test failures or performance issues - Work closely with diagnostic technicians on the production floor to troubleshoot down to the component level when burn-in or functional tests flag errors, and drive rapid resolution of hardware, firmware, or configuration problems
- Apply strong problem-solving techniques and use diagnostic tools (logs, Linux command-line utilities, etc.) to isolate issues in both electronic components and the liquid cooling loop
- Automation and Data Analysis:
Develop and maintain automation scripts to execute test sequences, capture test data, and streamline result analysis - Analyze test logs and sensor data (thermal, flow, power readings) to evaluate system performance and cooling efficiency, ensuring that sub-components remain within safe operating temperatures
- Use statistical analysis and data visualization to monitor key performance indicators (yield, throughput, failure rates) and identify trends or systemic issues, providing data-driven feedback for continuous improvement
- Continuous Improvement:
Proactively drive yield improvement and process optimization initiatives. This includes reviewing test data to pinpoint frequent failure modes, and then collaborating with other teams to implement corrective actions that enhance manufacturing yield - Explore new testing methodologies, tools, and technologies to continuously enhance test coverage, reduce cycle time, and improve quality
- Technical Leadership and Training:
Lead and mentor test engineering technicians, diagnostic technicians, and junior engineers in daily activities - Train new hires on test procedures, Linux command-line usage, basic debugging techniques, and safety protocols as needed
- Develop training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to build team competency in both general server testing and the specifics of liquid cooling system maintenance
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, hands-on problem solving, and continuous learning within the team
- Cross Functional
Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams - including process engineering, production, quality, and operations - to resolve issues and communicate findings - Act as a technical liaison in meetings with customers and internal stakeholders, conveying complex test results, thermal performance data, and failure analysis…
