Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support a large ongoing project at our client site in Ashland, Wisconsin, with opportunities to support additional projects. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate to the Ashland, WI area or commute daily. In the summer months, on‑site attendance is required 5 days a week. In the winter months, one day a week on site and the remainder of the week can be remote.
The successful candidate will have experience managing/coordinating environmental projects, supervising/conducting environmental field work, and writing environmental technical reports.
- Support AECOM projects in contaminated sediments, soil and groundwater remediation, environmental compliance, and ESG/Sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with senior staff to provide technical analysis and deliverables for remedial investigations, feasibility studies, remedial design, remedial action, fate and transport modeling, and innovative sampling approaches.
- Plan and direct field activities for data collection and data management.
- Maintain positive working relationships with client contacts, suppliers, contractors, engineering consultants, academia, and external agencies.
- Engage in internal Technical Practice Groups and coordinate with regional and national experts for professional development.
- Operate equipment such as skid steers and excavators.
- Direct subcontractors and perform supervisory work.
- Screen soil and debris for contaminants.
- Perform manual digging.
- Collect soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and air samples.
- Manually process residual solids (e.g., size and wet).
- Document work completed.
- Conduct general operation and maintenance tasks.
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS in Civil, Environmental Engineering or related field plus four (4) years of relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
- US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pass background check and drug screen administered by client.
- Willingness to travel, complete field work, and work extended hours when necessary.
- Ability to acquire professional registration.
- 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8‑hour annual refresher certification.
- Assist with preparation of cost estimates for various remediation plans and activities.
- Experience with response and environmental investigations and site cleanup, closure, and development of conceptual site models.
- Prepare remediation strategies, remedial technology selection, remedial design, and remediation construction plans.
- Completing contaminant fate and transport evaluation and mass flux estimates.
- Preparing 3D hydrogeological conceptual models.
- Prepare plans and specifications for project bidding and construction.
- Develop design specifications and reports for submittal to technical clients and regulators.
- Work as part of a project team of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
- Flexibility to work on a variety of diverse projects.
- Positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Field work may include subcontractor oversight.
- CAD experience is a plus.
- Proficient with basic computer programs;
Microsoft Suite. - Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
