Senior Critical Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer- Supply Chain and Rack Testing Facility, Fie

An Amazon Critical Infrastructure Field Engineer supports the facility’s cooling infrastructure (not the IT equipment itself) to ensure physical environments support safe and reliable rack testing operations across Amazon’s Supply Chain Facility Management (SCFM) facilities and Data Centers. The engineer is the primary engineering SME for their region, partnering with SCFM, Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) partners, and cross‑functional stakeholders to maintain safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

• Troubleshoot, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and create corrective action (CA) documentation for equipment failures.
• Conduct feasibility studies for existing facility upgrades, review design solutions, and improve availability, efficiency, and reduce operational cost, including liquid cooling technology enablement for server and rack test environments.
• Drive standardization of space planning, design implementation, and construction practices to deliver operational efficiencies across AWS Infrastructure Services.
• Navigate ambiguity and support operational issues with minimal technical guidance, review complex operating procedures, assess critical equipment, and provide on‑site event support with cross‑functional teams.
• Interface with internal teams—including hardware engineers, Fleet Remediation Engineering, program managers, Environmental Health & Safety, Control, Design and Construction—promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability across facilities.
• Initiate and lead engineering audits, produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations, and lead remediations through implementation.
• Act as resident engineer during new construction and fit‑out projects; review commissioning scripts and acceptance criteria, and oversee turnover of new facilities.
• Review preventive maintenance programs to ensure proactive building maintenance and optimal performance in partnership with IFM partners.
• Travel domestically and internationally (≈25 % of time).

• Strong engineering judgement and ability to provide recommendations despite uncertainty.

• Experience managing engineering projects and contractors/consultants.
• Build trust and relationships with diverse stakeholders (operations, commissioning, construction, design, supply chain, data center, security).
• Adaptable and willing to go into the field to see things up close.
• Strategic thinker who can reset the bar for Amazon facility standards globally.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 6+ cumulative years of experience with industrial, municipal, or commercial facility engineering (e.g., supply chain, data centers, oil/gas facilities).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation by start date.

• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
• Experience with BMS/EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in critical data center operations (e.g., feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, air handling units, CRAC).
• Experience in building design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities (greenfield builds, upgrades).
• Experience with liquid cooling technologies or other advanced mechanical systems.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) and/or advanced degree in engineering or related field.

Base salary ranges from $ to $ USD annually (USA, KY, Florence). Compensation includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Benefits include health, dental, vision, prescription coverage, a 401(k) matching program, paid time off, parental leave, and other standard Amazon benefits.
