Agency Overview

The Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) regulates more than 300,000 licenses and certificates. OBN licenses and regulates Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs), Dialysis Technicians (DTs), Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Medication Aides (MA-Cs). OBN's top priorities are to efficiently license the nursing workforce and remove unsafe practitioners from practice in a timely manner to protect Ohio patients.

Public protection is critical, as nursing touches virtually every citizen of Ohio.

Job Description

Position(s) will be filled in accordance with Article 17 of the Agreement between the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association and the State of Ohio. Internal Candidates are considered first.

Performs a variety of duties relating to the application of prospective nurses and/or certificate holders in Ohio. Reviews & verifies incoming information (e.g., copies of certificates, verifies total hours completed, course approval & attendance of continuing education claimed by licensees) regarding applicants for registration/renewal. Identifies problems, determines status & completeness & contacts applicants or licensees regarding submitted materials or to obtain additional information, ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules &/or procedures, determines accuracy, completeness & acceptability.

Prepares files for data entry by records management section; files applications, records & reports; drafts, types & files correspondence pertaining to testing; utilizes database for retrieval of information; logs examination results & maintains records related to testing of applicants. Answers questions from applicants regarding status of application. Receives training in application review process (e.g., Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Certified Medication Aides (CMAs), Community Health Workers (CHW’s), Dialysis Technicians (DTS) and Doulas.

Identifies problems, determines status, completeness & appropriateness of submitted materials.

  • 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in clerical/secretarial or other administrative support position involving public contact; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in typing, word processing or data entry using video display terminal.
