Mechanical/Electrical Assembler

The Mechanical/Electrical Assembler installs mechanical and electrical parts and sub-assemblies onto machine tools as part of a precision manufacturing process. This role reads and interprets assembly drawings and schematics, performs mechanical and electrical assembly, and ensures that machines meet quality and appearance standards before leaving the assembly area.

Responsibilities

  • Install a wide range of mechanical and electrical parts and sub-assemblies onto machine tools as part of the manufacturing process.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, blueprints, and schematics for new machines and components to determine correct assembly steps.
  • Verify that all parts and materials required for complete machine assembly are delivered to the assembly location before beginning work.
  • Align, adjust, and modify sheet metal components to ensure proper fit and function on the machine.
  • Install electrical components and parts required for specific machines, following wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Perform wiring tasks using diagrams and schematics to connect electrical components accurately and safely.
  • Visually inspect machines for appearance and quality issues, including bad welds, grinder marks, paint scrapes, and other defects, and promptly notify the lead or supervisor.
  • Operate an overhead crane to safely lift and install heavy items such as hydraulic pump assemblies, transformers, and other large components.
  • Use a walk-behind forklift to transport parts and assemblies within the facility as needed.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, grinders, and air-powered tools, to install parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Complete all required check sheets and documentation accurately to record assembly steps and quality checks.
  • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues during the build process and support repair activities as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop and safety standards.
  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new employees by demonstrating proper assembly techniques and work practices when needed.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in mechanical assembly in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in electrical assembly, including installation and wiring of components.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to align, adjust, and modify components for proper fit.
  • Hands-on experience using hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, and air-powered tools.
  • Ability to perform wiring using diagrams and schematics with attention to detail and safety.
  • Experience with machine building or machine tool assembly.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical issues during assembly.
  • Ability to complete required check sheets and documentation accurately.
  • Capability to operate material handling equipment such as cranes and walk-behind forklifts, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail for visual inspection of welds, finishes, and overall machine appearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in industrial equipment, machine build, or electronic assembly.
  • Experience with installation and repair of mechanical and electrical components in an industrial setting.
  • Comfort working with a variety of hand and power tools for both mechanical and electrical tasks.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and support training of new employees.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify and report quality or assembly issues quickly.
