Maintenance Technician

This role focuses on maintaining and improving process machinery and plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. The Maintenance Technician performs complete job changes on production equipment, troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues, and supports continuous improvement by working closely with engineering and plant leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain all process machinery and plant equipment in proper operating condition to support consistent production output.
  • Perform complete job changes on production equipment, including mold changes and setups, to meet production requirements and schedules.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to diagnose issues, plan repairs, and support equipment modifications.
  • Service and maintain injection molding presses, molds, grinders, pumps, motors, blenders, compressors, boilers, lighting and electrical systems, conveying systems, robots, automatic handling equipment, assembly machinery, and other specialized equipment and systems.
  • Install, maintain, and repair process piping, valves, timers, thermocouples, fittings, gauges, solenoids, switches, and all types of hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, and air systems.
  • Set up, remove, inspect, and maintain molds of various sizes and complexities in automatic or semi-automatic presses so that molds and presses are fully ready for production.
  • Perform insert changes, disassemble, clean, and reassemble molds according to production needs and quality standards.
  • Install and remove auxiliary equipment such as insert loaders, material dryers, shrink fixtures, hot stamp machines, conveyors, sprue separators, and test equipment.
  • Lubricate machines and equipment on a regular basis and carry out other general plant maintenance tasks as required.
  • Develop and maintain accurate blueprints and documentation for equipment and systems.
  • Instruct, direct, and train other employees on proper use, setup, and maintenance of equipment when needed.
  • Manage and maintain spare parts inventory for various machines and equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Consult and work closely with plant engineering and management to address equipment issues, improvements, and projects.
  • Recognize when additional support or expertise is required and proactively seek appropriate assistance.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance skills with the ability to diagnose and repair complex machinery and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical or mechanical schematics.
  • Experience working with injection molding presses and related equipment, or similar industrial machinery.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work independently, using a high degree of initiative and good judgment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think through issues and solutions without constant supervision.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, and air systems.
  • Familiarity with process piping, valves, timers, thermocouples, fittings, gauges, solenoids, and switches.
  • Background in working with grinders, pumps, motors, blenders, compressors, boilers, lighting and electrical systems, conveying systems, robots, automatic handling equipment, and assembly machinery.
  • Ability to perform mold setup, removal, inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and reassembly for injection molding operations.
  • Experience installing and maintaining auxiliary equipment such as material dryers, shrink fixtures, hot stamp machines, conveyors, sprue separators, and test equipment.
  • Capability to develop and maintain blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Experience training and guiding other employees in maintenance or equipment operation.
  • Comfort working in a unionized environment and willingness to join the appropriate union as required.
