Job Summary

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky welcomes applications for a postdoctoral scholar position in observational astronomy. This is a 2‑year position (anticipated Aug 1 2026 – Jul 31 2028) with the possibility of extension for a third year (contingent on performance and funding availability). The postdoctoral scholar will work in Dr. Jiayi Sun’s group and lead innovative research using new ALMA and JWST data from several large programs.

The scholar will also have the opportunity to join and play leadership roles in major international teams (including PHANGS and MAUVE) that study the multi‑phase ISM and star formation across the local universe.

Responsibilities
  • Lead research using ALMA and JWST data from large programs.
  • Join leadership roles in international teams such as PHANGS and MAUVE.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a related field prior to the start of the position.
  • Experience in reducing and analyzing ALMA and/or JWST data is especially encouraged.
