Position Overview
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Cognition and Modeling Branch is offering a Research Fellowship at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will conduct experiments related to neurocognitive degradation of C‑130 crew members and contribute to the development of human‑machine systems and healthy Airmen protocols. The research may involve physiological measures such as eye‑tracking and electroencephalography.
Responsibilities- Participate in team‑based research projects, designing and conducting experiments and performing data analysis.
- Develop rigorous experimental paradigms, experimental software, institutional review board protocols, and carry out data collection.
- Learn about new domains relevant to the Cognition and Modeling Branch at Wright‑Patterson AFB.
- Report research updates in individual and group meetings.
- Share research findings through publications and presentations.
Dayton, Ohio. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection, and applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
Appointment LengthThis appointment is a twelve‑month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods depending on funding availability, project assignments, and program rules.

- Hold or be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree within two years of the appointment start date in one of the disciplines listed below.
- Demonstrate prior experience with human‑subjects ethics and data collection.
- U.S. Citizen only.
Disciplines that are eligible include:
- Engineering (all sub‑fields such as Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, etc.)
- Social and Behavioral Sciences
