Position: Fisheries Biologist 2 - 20058734 & 20060999 (District/Research)

Positions

  • Fisheries Biologist 2 (PN ) – Licking County, Inland Fisheries Research Unit, 1015 17 Canal Road, Hebron, OH 43025.
  • Fisheries Biologist 2 (PN ) – Athens County, District 4 Headquarters, 360 East State Street, Athens, OH 45701.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluates existing fish management programs and develops new research and management projects, serving as principal investigator on studies involving fish age & growth, population dynamics, recruitment, mortality, exploitation, stocking strategies and regulatory impacts.
  • Conducts and oversees field surveys of fisheries and aquatic communities (e.g., fish, angler, plankton, aquatic plants, limnological conditions) using appropriate sampling gear.
  • Designs, coordinates, and oversees fisheries and angler access projects, determining project requirements, sampling designs, staffing needs, procedures, schedules, budgets and equipment purchases to support unit and statewide objectives.
  • Uses appropriate statistical methods to collate, analyze, model and interpret biological and environmental data, manages databases and analytical programs, drafts technical reports and peer‑reviewed publications, and presents technical information at scientific meetings.
  • Communicates technical and scientific information to the public and stakeholders, prepares news releases and articles, provides presentations and media responses and represents the division on professional committees.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an undergraduate core program in fisheries science AND 24 months training or 24 months experience in management & coordination of fisheries projects.
  • Or completion of a graduate core program in biological sciences including 6 courses in fisheries science and 2 courses in statistics; 6 months training or 6 months experience in management & coordination of fisheries projects.
  • Or completion of a graduate core program in fisheries science AND 6 months training or experience in management & coordination of fisheries projects.
  • 24 months training or 24 months experience as Fisheries Biologist 1 (PN 22271).
  • Or equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
Compensation

Starting hourly pay of $28.76/hr with multiple pay increases over the first 5.5 years of service, ending at $38.01/hr cost of living adjustments (COLA) may also apply. Longevity pay supplements begin after five years of state service. For more details, refer to the OCSEA pay range schedule & longevity rates.

Schedule & Hours

Full‑time, 8 AM – 5 PM subject to change.
