Job SummaryThe Armed Security Officer is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff; and to interact with people with an emphasis on professional service and customer relations. The Armed Security Officer should have a working knowledge and understanding of the use of deadly physical force. This position works closely with staff, local law enforcement, and other government agencies.
The officer will demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
- Direct visitors, patients, and employees to appropriate location(s) and intervene to prevent and control disturbances.
- Protect, secure, and safeguard all persons on SEH property.
- Provide way‑finding and general assistance for patients and visitors during routine security duties.
- Relate to customers, provide clear communications in a courteous, professional manner, and offer appropriate de‑escalation techniques in a variety of situations.
- Monitor activity via closed circuit television and alarm systems that terminate within security.
- Handle radio and telephone communications effectively.
- Complete case reports, maintenance logs, daily data entry, and any other documentation professionally.
- Review roll call, emails, and other pertinent information daily.
- Use photographic documentation to supplement written reports when appropriate.
- Successfully complete all mandatory training required by the department.
- Complete and maintain all additional trainings associated with firearms.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required with applicable Criminal Justice experience.
- OR
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Valid driver’s license and must be insurable by the Hospital insurance carrier.
- Accredited police academy firearms course, state‑approved concealed carry firearms course, approved firearms training program, or related military firearms training.
- Pass a Psychological Evaluation.
- Completion of weapons retention training.
- 6 months of SEH Security Officer 1 experience.
- OR
- Current Sworn Law Enforcement Officer.
- OR
- Honorably discharged member of the Armed Forces.
