Reports to: Wastewater Supervisor
Status: Classified/Non-Exempt/Full-Time/Union Eligible
Base Wage: 2025 full union rate of $26.13/hr new hires will be paid the probationary rate of 95% of the union rate ($24.82/hr.) for the first 12 months of employment.
A Service Technician II (Tech II)-Wastewater is an entry-level position, responsible for ensuring that safe, clean water is discharged into the environment after treatment within the city’s wastewater facility. This includes the basic maintenance of city wastewater treatment plants and lift stations and the collection of water samples to verify water meets Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties- Follow all safety rules and procedures, reporting all safety concerns immediately to supervision.
- Operate city-owned vehicles and equipment, make minor maintenance repairs, and report major malfunctions to the mechanic.
- Work in cooperation with the Water Department by inspecting water lines, making minor repairs, flushing hydrants.
- Maintain accurate inventory of city owned equipment, tools and operating supplies, report depletion of materials to appropriate personnel.
- Perform daily, weekly, and other routine maintenance and housekeeping on work areas, machinery, vehicles and equipment; report any malfunctions to appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain and update daily work duty log as well as other written reports as directed.
- Communicate effectively and cooperate with all employees, contractors, and citizens.
- Required to be on call in the event of an emergency.
Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of one (1) year experience operating light and heavy equipment, or any equivalent combination of experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Equipment experience to be verified during interview process.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving history.
- Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment, plant maintenance, and repair preferred.
- Broad knowledge of machinery, vehicle and equipment operations.
- General knowledge of mechanics and technology.
- Responsible for the proper care and use of all tools and mechanical equipment.
- Self-motivated with ability to work under general supervision.
- Mechanically inclined, safety conscious.
- Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Physically able to safely and successfully perform manual tasks for extended periods of time.
- High school or general equivalency diploma required.
- PLEASE NOTE:
As a condition of continued employment, the following requirements must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire. Failure to meet these requirements within this timeframe may result in the termination of employment.- A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with tanker endorsement is preferred at the time of hire or must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire. Failure to meet this requirement within 12 months of hire may result in the termination of employment.
- A State of Ohio Class 1 Wastewater certification is preferred at the time of hire or must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or push/pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, workspace restrictions, intense noises, vehicle traffic, and other environmental dangers.
