BASE RANGE: 2025 union rate of $26.13/hr external hires will be paid the probationary rate of 95% of union rate ($24.82/hr.) for the first 12-months.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Service Technician II position performs both skilled and semi-skilled manual labor activities of the City of Aurora Service Department; does related work as required. This is a full-time position that may require overtime, depending on department/project needs, deadline objectives, inclement weather, etc. This position requires a 12-month probationary period.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Follows all safety rules and procedures, reporting all safety concerns immediately to supervision.
- Operates city-owned vehicles and equipment, make minor maintenance repairs, and report major malfunctions to mechanic.
- Performs road repairs including but not limited to filling potholes, sealing cracks, erecting signs and guardrails, executing berm work, snow and ice removal.
- Performs general roadside maintenance including right-of-way clearing and mowing, cleaning ditches, inspecting and installing culvert pipes and storm catch basins, removing trees and obstacles from road.
- Performs routine cemetery maintenance; may also excavate graves occasionally.
- Works in cooperation with Water Department by inspecting water lines, making minor repairs, flushing hydrants.
- Works in cooperation with the Wastewater Department inspecting and performing maintenance to underground lines and treatment facilities.
- Maintains accurate inventory of city owned equipment, tools and operating supplies; reports depletion of materials to appropriate personnel.
- Performs daily, weekly, and other routine maintenance and housekeeping on work areas, machinery, vehicles, and equipment; report any malfunctions to appropriate supervisor.
- Maintains and update daily work duty log as well as other written reports as directed.
- Communicates effectively and cooperates with all employees, contractors, and residents.
- Performs other duties as required including, but not limited to snowplowing, brush pick-up, leaves pick-up, and minor maintenance on city buildings such as carpentry, painting, electrical.
- Landscape maintenance.
- Required to be on call in the event of emergency.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have valid driver’s license with a safe driving history; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred or must be obtained within six (6) months into the probationary period.
- Broad knowledge of machinery, vehicles, and equipment operations.
- General knowledge of mechanics and technology.
- Responsible for the proper care and use of all tools and mechanical equipment.
- Mechanically inclined, safety conscious.
- Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
- Self-motivated with ability to work under general supervision.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to one-hundred (100) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
