Position Summary

The General Maintenance/Plumber performs skilled plumbing work and a variety of general maintenance duties throughout Boone County Schools. The employee is responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing systems, fixtures, equipment, and related building components.

The employee assists with the maintenance and repair of school buildings, administrative facilities, athletic facilities, and other district property to ensure that facilities remain safe, sanitary, functional, and suitable for students, employees, and the public.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet all requirements established for the Plumber II classification under applicable West Virginia law and Boone County Board of Education policy.
• Possess training, experience, and demonstrated competency in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Possess or obtain any plumbing license, certification, or permit required by state or local law for assigned work.
• Possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, equipment manuals, work orders, and technical instructions.
• Knowledge of plumbing systems, fixtures, pumps, valves, drains, water lines, sewer lines, and related equipment.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, ladders, lifts, and other maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, school administrators, employees, contractors, vendors, and members of the public.
• Ability to successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings.

• Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing systems in district buildings and facilities.
• Repair or replace faucets, sinks, toilets, urinals, water fountains, valves, pumps, drains, traps, pipes, and related fixtures.
• Diagnose and repair water leaks, clogged drains, sewer problems, low-water-pressure conditions, and other plumbing concerns.
• Install and repair water supply lines, waste lines, drainage systems, and plumbing connections.
• Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and related equipment.
• Inspect plumbing systems to identify unsafe conditions, deterioration, leaks, or potential failures.
• Respond promptly to emergency plumbing and maintenance situations.
• Shut off water, isolate damaged systems, and take appropriate steps to prevent additional property damage.
• Perform general building maintenance and repair work as assigned.
• Assist with repairs involving doors, locks, ceilings, walls, flooring, roofing, fixtures, and other building components.
• Assist other maintenance employees with electrical, HVAC, carpentry, grounds, and facilities-related projects when qualified and directed.
• Complete work orders accurately and document materials, labor, repairs, and follow-up needs.
• Prioritize assigned work in coordination with the Operations Complex Supervisor.
• Maintain an appropriate inventory of plumbing parts, tools, supplies, and materials.
• Notify the supervisor when replacement parts, specialized equipment, or contracted services are needed.
• Inspect tools, vehicles, and equipment before use and report damage or unsafe conditions.
• Operate district-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
• Maintain assigned work areas, vehicles, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
• Follow applicable building codes, plumbing codes, safety requirements, manufacturer instructions, and district procedures.
