Job DescriptionProvide care and maintenance to improve the aesthetics of the University campus. Maintain athletic fields in playing condition for practices and games. Rearrange and/or accommodate requests that will assist in functions on the grounds areas. Maintain or seek assistance providing a safe and secure environment. Perform minor repairs and report major repairs, vandalism or damage to supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications- Knowledge of construction sufficient to construct and repair simple structures.
- Knowledge of motorized equipment and tools sufficient to operate them and perform simple repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of methods of lawn and garden care sufficient to prune, mow, fertilize, weed, seed and sod as necessary.
- Basic knowledge of chemical fertilizer or pesticide application and related safety practices.
- Ability to maintain and make ordinary repairs of groundskeeping tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work outside most of the time, and in adverse weather conditions occasionally.
- Knowledge of SMSU campus and grounds
- Knowledge of horticulture techniques and practices including planting schedules, germination intervals, and transplantation
- Ability to project facility garden needs and order seeds, plants and supplies operating within a restricted budget. procedures sufficient to operate greenhouse, landscape facility gardens and grounds, and recognize and/or treat plant diseases and pests.
- Ability to train and direct the work of less experienced groundskeepers or work crews sufficient to assign responsibilities and inspect finished work.
