About the role:

Kpler is on the lookout for an Engineering Manager to guide our teams within the Commodities Tribe. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for leading the modernization of our foundational platforms, steering them towards a modular and AI-native architecture. You will also play a crucial role in cultivating a high-performance engineering culture that encourages innovation and collaboration.

What you'll do
  • Spearhead the transition of our platform, ensuring that engineers are well-informed and engaged with the new architectural vision.
  • Partner with product and domain experts to establish roadmaps that prioritize data quality and deliver significant business value.
  • Provide mentorship to senior engineers and Technical Leads, empowering them to make decisions while holding them accountable for outcomes.
  • Balance the delivery of the roadmap with the management of technical debt and the overall health of the platform.
  • Set and uphold operational standards, which include incident response protocols, on-call rotations, and system observability practices.
  • Oversee team expansion through strategic hiring, performance coaching, and planning for future capabilities.
  • Maintain a solid technical understanding to effectively challenge assumptions and advocate for sound architectural decisions.
  • Foster a culture of ownership among engineers, encouraging them to take responsibility for their work from inception to deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between engineering efforts and business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance and product quality.
  • Engage in regular performance reviews and feedback sessions to support team members' professional growth.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to keep Kpler at the forefront of innovation.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in leading software engineering teams, whether through formal management roles or as a senior contributor focused on delivery and team development.
  • Strong expertise in backend, data, or distributed systems, with the capability to review architectural designs and mentor others in best practices.
  • Proven track record of translating business needs into technical solutions in collaboration with product stakeholders.
  • Experience managing production systems, including responsibilities for monitoring, alerting, and implementing improvements post-incident.
  • Ability to establish clear objectives and nurture a culture of comprehensive engineering ownership within the team.
  • Familiarity with technical interviewing processes and candidate evaluation techniques.
Nice to have
  • Experience in modernizing or re-architecting established production systems to enhance performance and scalability.
  • Knowledge of data-intensive or event-driven systems, particularly with technologies such as Kafka, data pipelines, or machine learning-related tools.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and JVM-based languages like Java or Scala.
  • Experience in influencing product roadmaps rather than merely executing pre-defined requirements.
  • Background in sectors such as commodities, energy, logistics, or financial markets, providing valuable industry insights.
Skills & tools
