Position begins 26/27 school year. Salary Schedule is based on the school year.
This is a 10-month/renewable position, that includes benefits of paid medical and leave.
New hires typically begin at Step 1 on the Salary Schedule.

TITLE: Special Education Classified Life Skills EA, .875 FTE (7 hours per day)
PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position assists the Special Education teacher in establishing and
maintaining a climate of learning within the high school Life Skills Program. Must exhibit a genuine understanding of children, and be able to provide for a wide range of student developmental needs in Life Skills in a variety of settings. Learn and follow direct guidance as outlined by SPED case manager/teacher and documented student plans, and then be able to take initiative in responding to student's academic, emotional and physical needs, including discipline and behavior management.
Due to the interpersonal nature of training for and working with special needs children, the need for a positive attitude and warm personality are considered essential. May need to assist with hygiene and personal needs of students. May need to assist with physical management of aggressive students, and actively use district directed behavior management techniques and personal protective equipment.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Life Skills Special Education Case Manager/Teacher, and Building Principal, and District Director of Special Programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- ESSA Highly Qualified
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Experience with students with disabilities
- Experience in a classroom setting preferred
- Mandt training preferred, will be required to complete necessary training annually
- First Aid/CPR card preferred, will be required to complete necessary training annually
- Adhere to plans and guidance from SPED case manager/teacher for legal requirements of IDEA.
- Work with students on a wide range of curriculum from all levels (K-12) of academic coursework, to independent living skills and transition to adulthood curriculum.
- Maintain confidentiality of information about students and staff at all times.
- Attend and participate in behavior and physical management certification training as directed by SPED case manager/teacher and Special Programs Director.
- Implement behavior support plans and assist with challenging student behaviors, applying knowledge from district-required training, using appropriate strategies and techniques, and utilizing personal protective equipment as necessary.
- Provide for the identified physical needs of students, including toileting, feeding protocols, therapy, and medical This may involve attending regular delegations for procedures such as injections or medication administration, according to specified protocols and instructions.
