Position SummaryBridge Brothers is seeking a Purchasing Manager / Inventory Control professional to play a critical role in ensuring project profitability and operational efficiency. This position is responsible for sourcing steel and related materials in a near just-in-time (JIT) environment while aligning with project schedules, budgets, and margin targets.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing setting, understands steel and aluminum procurement, and brings a strategic, analytical mindset to purchasing and inventory control. This role serves as a key interface between suppliers, engineering, fabrication, and operations—helping ensure projects are executed on time, on budget, and without material disruptions.
Key Responsibilities- Purchase goods, materials, components, and services in alignment with cost, quality, and delivery targets.
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies to support project margins and long-term profitability.
- Conduct market research to understand available products, pricing trends, and supplier capabilities.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers; identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Monitor supplier performance and address issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
- Monitor stock levels and validate purchase requisitions against project needs.
- Participate in inventory tracking, forecasting, and material planning efforts.
- Evaluate and/or create material take-offs based on drawings and project requirements.
- Manage incoming deliveries and confirm compliance with purchase orders and contracts.
- Act as a primary interface between suppliers and internal teams including engineering, fabrication, and operations.
- Communicate proactively regarding supply risks, shortages, or opportunities that may impact schedules or costs.
- Support new projects by aligning procurement strategies with project timelines and fabrication needs.
- Maintain detailed purchasing and inventory records.
- Prepare reports, updates, and cost analyses as required by leadership.
- Monitor and advise on procurement-related risks or opportunities to the organization.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
- Attend supplier facilities, industry conferences, and vendor meetings to stay informed on market changes, pricing trends, and new technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a purchasing or inventory management role, ideally within a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Extensive working knowledge of steel and aluminum materials.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills for comparing pricing, quantities, and vendor contract terms.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
- Strategic, detail-oriented mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software (Spectrum ERP strongly preferred).
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and general computer literacy.
- Experience with forecasting strategies and inventory optimization tools.
