Building Inspector
$24.20/hour; 37.5 hours/week

- High school diploma or GED required, associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred
- Experience in construction, engineering, or code enforcement is highly desirable
- Certification as a Building Inspector (e.g., ICC Residential or Commercial Building Inspector) issued by South Carolina Labor License and Regulations is preferred
- Must obtain the first required certification within one year of the hire date. Each subsequent certification must be obtained within one (1) year of passing the previous one, until all four (4) certifications are completed to meet the requirements of the South Carolina Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) and the City of Florence for Building Inspector certification
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license
The Building Inspector is responsible for ensuring that construction projects and existing structures comply with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards. This role involves regular site inspections, reviewing plans and permits, and working with contractors and property owners to ensure code compliance throughout construction and occupancy phases. The Building Inspector reports directly to the Building Official.
