Dental Assistant Wateree River Correctional Institution, Rembert; SUMTER Level 2

Responsibilities

• Under the direct supervision of the Director of Dentistry, employee will be dually supervised by the dentist at their assigned institution.
• Employee will assist with providing dental care to patients in their assigned clinic and statewide, as needed.
• Prepares patients for treatment and provides chairside assistance for all dental procedures.
• Operates dental equipment as necessary for the care and treatment of patients.
• Exposes, develops, and mounts/files dental x-rays.
• Also prepares and maintains dental x-ray developing solutions.
• Maintains dental equipment by cleaning and lubricating dental hand pieces, suction lines, etc.
• Also cleans working areas and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
• Prepares and mixes various filling and impression materials.
• Performs clinical laboratory procedures.
• Performs prophylaxis and oral hygiene instruction as needed.
• Maintains the inventory of the clinic's dental supplies.
• Requests additional supplies as needed.
• Keeps statistical reports on clinical activities and performs administrative/clerical duties as necessary.
• Assists with providing dental care to other dental clinics, statewide, as instructed/needed.

  An associate degree in Dental Assistance or one year of formal training in a dental assistance course accredited by the American Dental Association.
• SCDC
  
  Minimum Requirements:
  
  Associated degree in dental assistance or a high school diploma and one year of formal training in an ADA-accredited assistant's course, and one year of dental assistant experience with certification in dental x-ray.
