Overview
Florence School District One is building a pipeline of future educators through Teach Florence 1, an alternative certification pathway designed to help motivated candidates transition into teaching. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who have a passion for working with students and want to start a meaningful career in education — including career changers, paraprofessionals, veterans, and community members interested in becoming certified teachers.
WhatYou’ll Do
Candidates accepted into the Teach Florence 1 pathway may have the opportunity to:
- Participate in an information session and screening process
- Learn about certification requirements and training expectations
- Explore available teaching areas and placement opportunities
- Complete program requirements leading toward teacher certification
- Build the skills needed to become an effective classroom educator
- Support student growth, learning, and classroom success
Typical requirements include (may vary based on program guidelines):
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Ability to pass background screening
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to completing certification and training requirements

Application requirements- Professional Resume
- Two professional references
- The candidate must have earned a Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution or from an institution with teacher-preparation programs approved for certification purposes by the State of South Carolina.
- The candidate must have earned a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The GPA in the content area major or the GPA in the last 60 hours of coursework can be used to meet this requirement. Candidates interested in early childhood, elementary, or special education multi-category must have a 2.75 overall GPA or a 2.5 GPA with passing scores on all sections of the Praxis Core.
- The candidate must submit a statement of disclosure regarding any prior convictions to include felonies and misdemeanors.
