Professor of Criminal Justice

Job Responsibilities

Criminal Justice faculty at Midlands Technical College are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across a range of courses, including but not limited to introductory and advanced topics in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security. Faculty typically teach a full course load during the Fall and Spring semesters, with the possibility of additional assignments based on departmental needs and student demand. Instruction may be delivered in multiple formats, including in‑person (on campus or at off‑site locations such as local high schools), hybrid, synchronous virtual (e.g., Zoom), and asynchronous online (via D2L Brightspace).

Faculty are expected to design and deliver courses that align with established student learning outcomes, assess student performance, and continuously evaluate instructional effectiveness. In addition to teaching, faculty contribute to curriculum development and program improvement by aligning course content with institutional goals and workforce expectations.

Responsibilities include maintaining accurate and timely academic records, participating in assessment activities related to student learning outcomes, and supporting student success initiatives. Faculty are expected to maintain regular office hours and provide academic support, mentoring, and guidance to students. Creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and professional readiness is essential. Service to the college is an important component of the role.

Faculty participate in department, school, and college committees, and contribute to student engagement activities such as outreach events, workshops, and program initiatives. Ongoing professional development is required to remain current with best practices in Criminal Justice education, emerging trends in the field, and instructional technologies.

The successful candidate will be hired into a full‑time faculty position and, upon appointment, will receive an initial administrative assignment as the Criminal Justice Program Director. This assignment includes providing academic leadership and operational support for the Criminal Justice program in accordance with college policies and may be modified or reassigned based on institutional needs. Program Director responsibilities are assigned separately from the faculty appointment and do not alter the individual’s underlying status as a full‑time faculty member.

This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus.

Master’s degree or doctorate in criminal justice or closely related discipline (such as Homeland Security) with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice. Two years’ practical work experience in the field of criminal justice.

• Demonstrated experience or interest in teaching diverse student populations in a two‑year college setting.
• Credentials in Homeland Security as well as Criminal Justice.
• Experience with synchronous online instruction (e.g., Teams), use of the D2L Brightspace learning management system, and teaching dual enrollment students.
