Job Description

Health Science Technology Instructor
Career and Technology worked‑based certification area:
Health Science Technology.
Certification requirements:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in nursing and two years full‑time experience as a Registered Nurse, or a Bachelor’s degree in nursing with six months full‑time RN experience.
  • Current and valid Registered Nursing license from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation.
  • Holds or can obtain a South Carolina Career and Technology Education worked‑based teaching certificate.
Instructional duties include therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development pathways. The instructor provides healthcare‑specific knowledge and skills for students’ transition to workplace learning. Responsibilities
  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Teach multiple disciplines as assigned.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to student maturity.
  • Plan and prepare lesson plans and related activities for individual students or assigned classes.
  • Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals; establish clear objectives and communicate them to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the available resources and student needs.
  • Grade student work; maintain accurate records of test scores and grades.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Report suspected learning and other disabilities to District specialists.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and up‑to‑date records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assist in administering school policies and rules governing student life and conduct; establish classroom behavior rules and maintain order fairly.
  • Monitor student behavior to ensure safety and well‑being.
  • Support individual students in need of special attention.
  • Supervise teaching assistants and/or volunteers.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents; conduct parent‑teacher conferences, workshops and home visits as necessary.
  • Maintain inventory of classroom supplies and equipment; prepare supply requisitions.
  • Coordinate and participate in special programs, projects or events; serve as adviser to student organizations and committees.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Participate in staff in‑service training and continuing education.
  • Arrange for substitute instructors as needed.
  • Operate various classroom equipment including computers, printers, audio‑visual systems and curriculum‑specific instruments.
Additional Functions
  • Provide remedial assistance to individuals, small groups or entire classes as scheduled.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly classroom.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Physical Requirements

Ability to exert very moderate effort in light work, including standing for extended periods, writing on a chalkboard, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting or carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

Training and Education

Valid South Carolina teaching certificate or eligibility for certification in the appropriate area. Experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable.
